Use these tips to
ensure trouble-free
electronic files.

Top tips for submitting trouble-free Electronic files

1. It's best to use Type 1 PostScript fonts and include both the screen and the printer fonts. TrueType fonts are not fully compatible with high-resolution image setters and therefore are unpredictable.

2. All fonts used to build the document, including those used in graphics, should be submitted along with the application files. All fonts used should be embedded in the PDF file. ( back to FTP Instructions )

3. For text, send PDF files and application files. For covers and dust jackets, send application files with all supporting graphics and fonts, so that we may modify the spine, adjust trapping, etc.

4. Send a complete set of currently edited lasers, (printed on one side only), full size (100%), 600 DPI (minimum) of the files you are providing, including any blank pages in the finished copy.

5. When graphics are being used, send separate "tiff" files along with the application files and name the files logically. Line art should be scanned at 600 dpi (minimum) and halftones (photographs) at 300 dpi.

6. When working with 4-color images, convert all graphics to "CMYK."

7. The document page size should be the same dimension as the trim size of your book. Insert blank pages where they would appear in the finished book to keep all ODD numbered pages as right-handed pages and EVEN numbered pages as left-hand pages in the book.

8. Be cautious when using Style Attributes on fonts. If you want a font to be bold or italic, choose the bold-italic version of that font directly from the font style menu.

9. Twin Rivers preferred page layout applications are QuarkXPress and PageMaker. The most common types of media we support are: Zip Disks, CDs and 3 1/2 in. floppy disks.
